Two firefighters from fire station No. 9 (FS-9) in the city of Kurchatov, Arnur Adkenov and Yermek Sydykov, died in a road traffic accident (RTA) on the Semey–Kurchatov highway while travelling to their place of duty after an alarm was raised. The Government of Kazakhstan has approved a Comprehensive Plan for the Development of Veterinary Medicine for 2026–2030. The document envisages a 1.5 to 2.5-fold increase in veterinary salaries, an 80% upgrade to the material and technical base, and large-scale digitalisation of the sector. At the same time, systemic problems in veterinary medicine — staff shortages, disease outbreaks, and corruption — have not gone away.
