The Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market (ARDFM) has responded to calls for the resignation of its chair, Madina Abylkassymova, which appeared in a petition following the launch of a unified interbank QR code. The authority stated that matters concerning the system’s operation, as well as the regulation of interbank acquiring fees, fall outside its remit.

Kazakhstan has halted the pumping of oil to the marine terminal of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) in the Russian port of Novorossiysk following a series of attacks on tankers in the Black Sea. According to available information, the terminal has stopped receiving oil via the pipeline, as shipping companies are afraid to send vessels to the area.

In Kazakhstan, a system for labelling official calls has been introduced, which will allow subscribers to distinguish calls from banks, companies and other organisations from potentially fraudulent ones. New requirements for telecom operators have also been adopted, along with additional measures to protect users of telecommunications services.

In the Kostanay region, an investigation into a criminal case concerning illegal subsoil use and unauthorised extraction of minerals has been completed. According to the investigation, industrial extraction of river sand was carried out outside the subsoil plot provided by the state. The criminal case has been sent to court.

The sentence for sodomy is being appealed due to questions over the evidence in Pavlodar region.

The sister of one of the men convicted of violent sodomy and sentenced to 8 years in prison has contacted the FBRK editorial office. She claims that her brother is innocent, and that the case is based on police pressure and weak evidence.

A public conflict has erupted around Kazakhstan's largest semi-wild saiga breeding project in the Korgalzhyn district of the Akmola region. The trigger was statements by hunter and public activist Batyr Seikenov, who questioned the legality of certain aspects of the project's implementation. In the Auliekol district of Kostanay region, restrictions have been introduced in the villages of Kazanbasy and Oktyabrskoye due to brucellosis. Of the 323 heads of cattle examined, 23 were confirmed to have the infection, and they have been sent for sanitary slaughter.
