Parents of pupils at School-Lyceum No. 2 in Kokshetau were indignant about the second-shift timetable, because of which children were finishing lessons at 20:20. After a public appeal and discussion of the problem, the timetable was revised: lessons now end at 19:30.
WHY PARENTS WERE INDIGNANT
According to Sinegor.kz, the cause of the dissatisfaction was the moving of certain lessons to a seventh period — from 19:35 to 20:20. Parents said that such a schedule makes it difficult to keep to a daily routine: after school, children need to get home, have supper, do their homework and prepare for the next school day.
In the comments, parents also complained about the heavy academic workload, the shortage of classrooms and overcrowded classes. Some noted that the late finish is especially hard for younger pupils, who need enough time for sleep and rest.
WHAT QUESTIONS WERE RAISED ABOUT THE SCHOOL
In their public appeal, parents asked for an explanation of the regulatory basis on which the decision had been taken to move lessons to a later time. They also asked whether pupils' ages and the need for proper rest had been taken into account when drawing up the timetable.
Separately, parents raised the question of whether the new schedule complied with sanitary requirements and whether the academic workload had been agreed. According to them, the school's organisational difficulties should not affect children's daily routine.
WHAT THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT REPLIED
After the parents' appeals, a working group was set up, which studied the timetable of School-Lyceum No. 2 and prepared adjustments taking into account the age characteristics of the pupils.
The education department of Akmola Region said that, after the timetable was revised, the second shift ends at 19:30. At the same time, according to the agency, the weekly academic workload has been preserved in full and complies with current sanitary rules.
