In Ust-Kamenogorsk, a road traffic accident (RTA) occurred involving a 16-year-old cyclist and a Kia car. After the collision, the teenager was taken to hospital.
HOW THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED
According to the Police Department of the East Kazakhstan Region (DP EKR), the accident occurred on 19 August at around 8:10 pm at the intersection of Nazarbayev and Vinogradov streets, near the Metallurg shopping centre.
The cyclist was travelling along Nazarbayev Street and, when turning onto Vinogradov Street, failed to ensure the manoeuvre was safe. At that moment, a Kia car was driving straight along the far right lane of Nazarbayev Street towards Ushanov Square.
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE TEENAGER'S CONDITION
According to the Telegram channel HALYQSTAN, witnesses reported that after the collision, the teenager's temple was bloodied. He lay on the asphalt near the roadway for some time, after which he got up on his own.
The cyclist was then taken to hospital.
WHAT DECISION WAS MADE REGARDING THE CYCLIST
According to the police, the teenager was held accountable under Part 2 of Article 615 of the Administrative Offences Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Violation of traffic rules by pedestrians and other road users").
CONTEXT
Earlier, journalist Dinara Yegеubayeva published a CCTV recording which, she claims, shows the moment of an accident involving a cyclist in Almaty. The publication was prompted by reports in certain public channels and media outlets claiming that she had allegedly knocked down and killed a person. According to Yegеubayeva, this information is not true.
