Journalist Dinara Yegoubayeva has published CCTV footage which she says captures the moment of a road traffic accident involving a cyclist in Almaty. The publication was prompted by reports in some public pages and media outlets claiming that she had allegedly hit and killed a person. According to Yegoubayeva, this information is not true.
WHAT HAPPENED
According to what Dinara Yegoubayeva said, the accident occurred on Kozhakeyev Street in Almaty. The journalist said that before turning right, she stopped her car to make sure there was no traffic coming from the left, and then began to move off. At that moment, according to Yegoubayeva, a cyclist who was riding on the opposite side of the road collided with her car.
According to the journalist, her view was obstructed by parked cars. She also stated that there is no pedestrian footpath, cycle lane or traffic light on that stretch of road.
WHAT DINARA YEGOUBAYEVA SAID
Yegoubayeva said that the police and an ambulance were called after the incident. According to her, the injured person is alive, but she does not know the exact extent of the injuries he sustained.
The journalist also said she does not intend to draw conclusions about the causes of what happened until the investigation is complete. She noted that she is open to various versions of events, but declined to comment on them, citing her lawyer's advice.
WHAT INFORMATION HAD PREVIOUSLY APPEARED
Earlier, information had been circulating online claiming that Dinara Yegoubayeva had allegedly hit and killed a cyclist. Later, publications appeared claiming that the man had survived but sustained various injuries, including concussion, broken ribs and damage to his leg.
The media also reported that as a result of the accident, the injured man was hospitalised with diagnoses including a closed head injury, concussion, a fracture of the right radius and fractures to two ribs.
