The specialised environmental prosecutor's office of the Abai region identified violations in waste management.
According to the department's press service, the inspection revealed that local executive bodies formally reported the elimination of 347 unauthorised landfills found in 2023. However, by the end of 2024, 233 new unauthorised waste accumulations were discovered in the region, 80 of which were in the same locations as the previously "eliminated" ones.
"This indicates a formal approach and insufficient effectiveness of the measures taken by local executive bodies to eliminate these sites," the statement said.
As a result of the inspection, the deputy akims of the Ayagoz, Borodulikha, Zharma and Beskaragai districts, as well as the head of the housing and communal services department of Semey, were brought to administrative responsibility.
Recall that in June we reported on how police officers in the Kokpekti district of the Abai region are using unmanned aerial vehicles to identify illegal landfills as part of the republican initiative "Taza Kazakhstan" and the departmental programme "Police for Cleanliness".
