How sand extraction is destroying the Ilek River in the Aktobe region
The FBK editorial office has received reports from residents of the Aktobe region concerned about the condition of the Ilek River. According to them, new quarries for the extraction of sand and sand-and-gravel mixtures are actively appearing along the floodplain. People fear that interference with the riverbed and floodplain system could have consequences not only for the ecology but also for the region's water supply.

The Ministry of Ecology stated that CCTV cameras to combat illegal dumping have been deemed "impractical", as waste is supposedly stored outside populated areas. However, data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, media publications and FBRK investigations show that dumping sites were recorded within cities too, and the government bodies themselves had previously reported on the effectiveness of cameras and digital monitoring.

The judge of the Astana inter-district court for civil cases, Assel Dosayeva, was stopped on 2 November on suspicion of driving a car under the influence of alcohol. The city court confirmed the fact of her detention, but it is not yet possible to arrest her administratively due to the special legal status of a judge.

The police of the Almaty region will begin an inspection of a section of the Chunja – Kokpek – Kolsai road following reports on social media about suspicious cars and possible provocations. The Ministry of Internal Affairs clarified that no official complaints from citizens regarding instances of pursuit or threats have been received so far, but the information provided has been passed on to territorial police units for verification.
