A court in Ust-Kamenogorsk has sentenced the former deputy akim of the East Kazakhstan region, Zhaksylyk Omar, to six years in prison with confiscation of property and a lifetime ban from holding public office. He has been found guilty of fraud using his official position and of taking a bribe. Due to the crimes being classified as corruption-related, amnesty and parole do not apply to him. The sentence has not yet entered into force and may be appealed.
