A 23-year-old resident of Shymkent sustained serious injuries after falling from the third floor of a building housing a gaming club. His mother claims that shortly before the incident, police officers were trying to forcibly take her son to the military enlistment office. A criminal case has been opened into the incident.
WHAT HAPPENED
According to Ulysmedia.kz, the incident occurred on the night of 11 May. According to the victim's mother, Zhanna Baidibekova, her son Arman Khabibulla was in the gaming club with a friend.
The woman claims that four police officers entered the premises. She says she later learned that among them were local police officers and two members of the Special Rapid Response Unit (SOBR). The victim's mother states that, after this, her son fell from the third floor of the building.
WHAT INJURIES DID THE YOUNG MAN SUSTAIN
According to Zhanna Baidibekova, following the fall, Arman Khabibulla suffered a severe traumatic brain injury, fractures to his skull, arm and ribs. He underwent surgery, after which he was in a coma for several days.
As the mother claims, doctors recommended beginning the process of registering for disability. According to her, the young man faces another operation on his head next month.
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION
According to Zhanna Baidibekova, she believes the actions of the police officers are linked to the incident. The woman also states that after filing the complaint, the investigation was handed over to different investigators several times.
According to her, the new investigator said he had only just begun to familiarise himself with the case materials. The victim's mother also claims that the police officers continue to perform their official duties, and information about the progress of the interrogations is provided to her with a delay.
APPEAL TO THE MINISTRY OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS AND THE POLICE'S POSITION
Zhanna Baidibekova is asking the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) to intervene in the investigation.
Journalists sent a request to the police department of the city of Shymkent, but at the time of publication, no comment from the department had been received.
