In the Irgiz district of the Aktobe region, mass animal deaths have been recorded for the second time in a few weeks. This time, in the Birsuat channel, local residents have discovered dozens of dead carp, pike, perch, bream and crucian carp, as well as many dead fry along the shore. Some of the fish are still alive, but according to eyewitnesses, they are gasping for air at the water's surface.
WHAT WAS FOUND IN THE BIRSUAT CHANNEL
According to the Telegram channel "HALYQSTAN", a large number of dead fish were found in the water, along with a build-up of fry near the shore. Some of the fish are still alive, but are gulping air with their mouths — a characteristic sign of oxygen deprivation in the water.
The district agriculture department of the Irgiz district explained that the Birsuat channel is small and does not get replenished from other sources, so the water level in it drops every day. Work to clean the water body is planned in the near future.
WHAT THE SPECIALISTS SAY
Specialists have already taken samples of water and fish to determine the causes of what happened. When the results of the analyses will be ready, and what exactly caused the fish kill — oxygen deficiency due to shallowing, temperature factors or other circumstances — has not yet been reported.
According to the Tobol-Torgai interregional basin fisheries inspection, control over water bodies not assigned to users is carried out by local executive bodies.
IRGIZ DISTRICT BACK IN THE SPOTLIGHT
It is worth recalling that a few weeks ago, the Irgiz district recorded a mass death of cattle. In 51 dead animals from the villages of Zhenbertal and Kurylys, three diagnoses were confirmed at once — theileriosis, babesiosis and, in isolated cases, leptospirosis, which is highly unusual for a single outbreak.
