The wedding of 21-year-old Tauman Nazarbayev in Astana took place in a closed format: guests were asked not to use their phones, and after the main banquet the celebration continued at a private after-party. Jah Khalib performed at the event.
HOW THE TOI WENT
According to Ulysmedia.kz, the celebration took place at The Ritz-Carlton, Astana. The hotel was decorated with floral arrangements, including white flowers on the staircase and at the reception desk.
Access to the lobby was restricted during the event. Visitors who wanted to get inside were told that a "very important event" was taking place at the hotel. A separate entrance on the side of the building was arranged for the invited guests.
WHY GUESTS COULD NOT FILM THE CELEBRATION
The organisers paid particular attention to the privacy of the event. Guests' phones were placed in special cases or pouches that were locked shut. As a result, smartphone cameras became unavailable for the duration of the celebration.
In addition, one of the performers of the evening was Jah Khalib.
WHAT GUESTS RECEIVED
As a toibastar, those invited were given small bouquets. According to a female source cited by the publication, the arrangements included bouquets of hydrangeas and peony-shaped roses, as well as options with red flowers.
The sarkyt from the event was packed in closed white bags without any noticeable writing.
WHERE THE CELEBRATION CONTINUED
After the main celebration, the guests continued the evening at Lilou Bar. The venue was completely closed to ordinary visitors for the duration of the private event.
The bar's management gave advance notice of this on Instagram, announcing that the venue would not be open that day and would return to its usual schedule the following day.
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE NEWLYWEDS
Tauman Nazarbayev married Aidana Sarsembayeva. Both were born in 2004–2005 and were 21 years old at the time of the wedding.
Tauman is the eldest son of Nursultan Nazarbayev and Asel Isabayeva, also known as Asel Kurmanbayeva. In his memoirs "My Life. From Dependency to Freedom", published in 2023, Nursultan Nazarbayev stated that he had married Asel according to Muslim customs. Two sons were born into the family — Tauman in 2005 and Baiken in 2008.
The bride is the daughter of Adilbek Sarsembayev and Aliya Imanbayeva. Over the years, Sarsembayev worked in the Astana akimat, the Presidential Administration, was first deputy akim of Petropavlovsk and headed the office of the akim of the North Kazakhstan Region (NKR). In 2021, he took up the post of vice-minister of industry and infrastructure development and remained in it until August 2022.
