President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met in Seoul with Hanwha Group Vice Chairman Kim Dong-wan. The Head of State proposed that the South Korean corporation implement joint projects in Kazakhstan, using the country as a technological platform for entering the markets of Central Asia.
WHICH PROJECTS WERE DISCUSSED
The parties discussed promising areas of Kazakh-Korean investment and technological co-operation. Particular attention was paid to the formation of a national artificial intelligence ecosystem and the development of digital infrastructure.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that Kazakhstan highly values its strategic partnership with South Korea. The President also called Hanwha Group one of the country's leading business groups, with international positions in strategically important industries.
Hanwha Group is one of the largest business groups in South Korea, operating in the fields of energy and marine solutions, aerospace and defence, finance, technology and consumer solutions.
WHAT ROLE KAZAKHSTAN PROPOSED TO HANWHA
The key proposal is to use Kazakhstan not only as a site for individual projects, but also as a technological platform for entering the markets of Central Asia.
The Head of State confirmed Kazakhstan's readiness to further deepen co-operation with Hanwha Group and expressed confidence that the agreements reached would be given practical embodiment in specific mutually beneficial projects.
HOW THE SOUTH KOREAN CORPORATION RESPONDED
Kim Dong-wan said that Hanwha Group began co-operating with Kazakhstan back in 1997 and was one of the first major Korean corporations to establish partnership relations with the country.
The Vice Chairman of Hanwha Group also stated that he had received with great enthusiasm the opportunity to participate in the digitalisation of Kazakhstan and the implementation of various projects in partnership with the republic.
CONTEXT
Recall that Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is in Seoul on a state visit. During the trip, the Head of State held a number of meetings with representatives of the Republic of Korea and presented state awards to Korean figures.
