President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took part in the XVIII BRICS Summit in New Delhi and held a number of bilateral meetings. The Head of State met with representatives of the UAE, USA, Ethiopia and India, and also held brief conversations with the leaders of a number of countries and international organisations.
WHO TOKAYEV MET ON 12 SEPTEMBER
On 12 September, the Head of State arrived in New Delhi to take part in the XVIII BRICS Summit. On the sidelines of the event, Tokayev met with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The parties discussed the implementation of major investment projects in the areas of energy, transport and logistics, information technology and agriculture. Tokayev noted the historic significance of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi's visit to Astana, during which a package of documents was signed.
WHAT THE PRESIDENT DISCUSSED WITH THE US REPRESENTATIVE
Also on 12 September, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with the US President's Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, Sergio Gor. The US representative conveyed a personal message from President Donald Trump with congratulations ahead of the 35th anniversary of Kazakhstan's Independence.
Tokayev confirmed the invitation to the American leader to visit Kazakhstan. The parties discussed the development of the expanded Kazakh-American strategic partnership, including artificial intelligence and digitalisation.
WHAT TOKAYEV DISCUSSED WITH THE PRIME MINISTER OF INDIA
On 13 September, the Head of State met with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. The leaders discussed cooperation in the areas of energy, digitalisation, education and tourism, as well as interaction between the technological ecosystems of Astana Hub and Hyderabad.
The parties also considered opportunities for cooperation between India and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Tokayev stated that Kazakhstan, as EAEU chair, welcomes the negotiation process on creating a free trade zone between the EAEU and India. The President invited Modi to visit Kazakhstan on a state visit.
WHAT ISSUES WERE DISCUSSED WITH THE PRIME MINISTER OF ETHIOPIA
On the same day, Tokayev held a meeting with the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed. The parties discussed the development of political dialogue, trade, economic and investment cooperation.
The interlocutors agreed to send delegations from the two countries to study trade, economic and investment potential, as well as the prospects for creating a hub in Kazakhstan for supplies of tea, coffee and flower products from Ethiopia. Abiy Ahmed said that Ethiopia would consider the possibility of opening an embassy in Kazakhstan. Tokayev invited the Prime Minister to visit the country on an official visit.
WHICH LEADERS TOKAYEV HELD BRIEF MEETINGS WITH
On the sidelines of the BRICS summit, the Head of State also held brief meetings with Vladimir Putin, Anwar Ibrahim, Le Minh Hung, Evariste Ndayishimiye, António Guterres, Tedros Ghebreyesus, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Sihasak Phuangketkeow.
WHAT TOKAYEV STATED AT THE BRICS SUMMIT
At the plenary session in the "outreach" / "BRICS+" format, the President spoke on the topic "Strengthening resilience, innovation, cooperation and stability".
Tokayev reported that Kazakhstan's trade turnover with BRICS members and partners in 2025 reached around $72 billion. He also proposed developing cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence and water resources and stated the need to strengthen transport connectivity. According to him, the volume of transit cargo transportation through Kazakhstan last year approached 40 million tonnes.
