Four workers died and two more were injured when a freight train struck a repair crew on a railway section in the Zhambyl Region. The Shu District Court found three railway workers guilty.
WHAT HAPPENED
According to the Chief Transport Prosecutor's Office, the tragedy occurred on 10 December 2025 on the «Sheshenkara – Karazhyngyl» section. During railway track repairs, a freight train struck the team of workers.
As reported by the prosecutor's office, the repair work was carried out without closing the section and without the necessary safety measures. In addition, the freight train driver had not been warned in time that people were on the tracks.
As a result of the incident, 4 workers died and another 2 were injured.
WHAT DECISION THE COURT HANDED DOWN
Under the verdict of the Shu District Court of 9 July 2026, the train dispatcher was found guilty by the court and sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment.
Two other workers of the Saryshagan Track District were found guilty by the court and sentenced to 3 years and 6 months of restriction of liberty.
In addition, all three were given the additional penalty of being banned from carrying out activities related to ensuring the safety of rail transport operations.
