The body of Ukrainian citizen Anastasia Berezovska, whom the law enforcement authorities of Monaco suspected of involvement in an attempt on the family of Ukrainian businessman Vadym Yermolaev, has been found on the territory of Ukraine. Two people have been detained on suspicion of her murder, and the investigation is ongoing.

WHAT LAW ENFORCEMENT AUTHORITIES REPORTED

According to the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) and the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, the body of Anastasia Berezovska was found after a reconstructive experiment. According to the investigation, the woman had sustained gunshot wounds to the head, and pistol cartridges were found near the body.

Ukrainian law enforcement authorities began a pre-trial investigation on 1 July 2026 after, according to their data, Berezovska arrived in Ukraine. During the course of investigative and operational-search measures, her travel routes and circle of contacts were established.

WHO WAS DETAINED

According to the investigation, after returning to Ukraine, Berezovska was in contact with relatives, a former law enforcement officer, and an active officer of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine (GUR MO).

As law enforcement authorities claim, the active officer of the GUR MO stated that he committed the murder of Berezovska together with another suspect. According to the investigation's version, he also claimed that he acted on his own initiative and did not inform his superiors about his contacts with the woman or transfers of money to her accounts.

Both suspects have been detained on suspicion of murder committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy.

WHAT ELSE IS KNOWN

According to the SSU, during a search of the home of the former law enforcement officer, a basement was discovered which, according to the agency, resembles a torture chamber.

Ukrainian law enforcement authorities reported that they have transferred all available information to the investigative authorities of Monaco. The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine stated that it is cooperating with the law enforcement authorities of the principality. The investigation is also establishing possible masterminds and other suspects in the case.
