11 August 2026, a fatal road accident occurred in the Enbekshikazakh district of the Almaty region involving an employee of the "Government for Citizens" branch, who was behind the wheel of a service vehicle. A pedestrian, a 77-year-old woman, died after being struck.
WHAT HAPPENED
According to the Department of Police (DP) of the Almaty region, the accident occurred at approximately 20:00 on the Almaty – Shelek – Khorgos – Bayseit highway. The driver of a Kia Sorento struck a woman who was crossing the road at an undesignated location.
The police reported that the driver fled the scene after the accident. Police officers identified him, apprehended him, and took him into custody. According to preliminary data, he is 26 years old.
WHAT "GOVERNMENT FOR CITIZENS" REPORTED
After receiving information about the incident, the state corporation conducted an internal investigation. As part of this, it assessed the actions of officials, internal control, and the management of the use of service vehicles.
Following the investigation, disciplinary measures were applied to officials. The deputy director of the branch for general affairs was held disciplinarily accountable for inadequate organisation of control over the use of service vehicles, as well as for failing to ensure the completeness and objectivity of official information.
DRIVER'S RESPONSIBILITY
The branch director was also held disciplinarily accountable. The state corporation noted his improper performance of official duties regarding general management and control, the organisation of the internal control system, and the safeguarding and intended use of property.
At the same time, the legal responsibility of the driver who was operating the service vehicle falls within the competence of law enforcement and judicial authorities. "Government for Citizens" emphasised that the degree and nature of responsibility are determined within the framework of criminal proceedings and judicial review in accordance with the law.
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION
The police are continuing investigative actions to establish all the circumstances and causes of the accident.
"Government for Citizens" expressed condolences to the relatives and loved ones of the deceased.
