Shet District Court in the Karagandy Region has issued a verdict in a criminal case concerning the illegal extraction of iron ore. Three defendants have been found guilty of illegal subsoil use and sentenced to various terms of imprisonment.
WHAT THE INVESTIGATION ESTABLISHED
The facts of illegal mineral extraction were uncovered by the specialised environmental prosecutor's office of the Karagandy Region during supervisory activities.
Based on this material, special prosecutors from the Karagandy Region conducted a pre-trial investigation. The investigation established that one of the region's enterprises had, over 4 years, illegally extracted iron ore without a licence and exported it abroad.
WHAT DAMAGE WAS ESTABLISHED
As a result of the illegal activities, the state suffered damage amounting to more than 2 billion tenge.
During the investigation, three individuals were taken into custody. Property worth over 360 million tenge was also seized.
