The National Security Committee (NSC) has detained 14 citizens of the Republic of Korea in Kazakhstan. Law enforcement agencies are investigating a criminal case against the detainees regarding alleged fraudulent activities.

WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE DETENTION

According to the NSC press service, on 23 July 2026, NSC officers detained 14 citizens of South Korea. The investigation into these individuals is being conducted by the law enforcement agency of the Republic of Korea.

The investigation in that country concerns alleged fraudulent activities using telecommunications systems as part of an organised criminal group.

WHAT WAS FOUND DURING THE SEARCHES

During searches at the detainees' places of residence, computer equipment, mobile phones, and laptops were discovered.

According to the agency, this equipment was used in illegal activities.

WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THE DETAINEES

The detainees have been taken to a temporary detention facility (TDF) for procedural actions.

Once the necessary procedures are completed, their subsequent deportation is planned.
