The Minister of Finance of Kazakhstan, Madi Takiyev, has said that the largest number of bribery cases among Kazakh customs officers is detected on the border with Uzbekistan. Similar violations are also recorded on the border with China. The bribes are linked, in particular, to accelerated border crossing.
WHAT THE MINISTER SAID
According to the Telegram channel “Vykhod k Pravde”, at a briefing journalists asked Madi Takiyev how many customs officials had been held accountable for corruption offences since the start of 2026.
The minister was unable to give an exact number but confirmed that such cases exist.
“Such facts exist. They occur on Kazakhstan’s border with Uzbekistan, and also on the border with China. Most of all – in the Uzbek direction. This concerns bribes, for example, for accelerated border crossing,” Takiyev said.
HOW THE AUTHORITIES ARE TACKLING VIOLATIONS
According to the minister, one of the ways of combating corruption has been the digitalisation of customs procedures.
The KazCargo system is now in use, which allows carriers to plan border crossing in advance and book a place in the queue.
HOW MANY CUSTOMS OFFICERS HAVE BEEN HELD ACCOUNTABLE
The minister did not specify the exact number of officials held accountable for corruption offences since the start of the year.
Nor is data provided on the number of detected cases in the Uzbek and Chinese directions. It is therefore not yet possible to compare the scale of violations using specific figures.
