The acting mayor of Atyrau, Tilek Makhуov, has become the subject of a pre-trial investigation. The National Security Committee (NSC) has confirmed the fact of the investigation but did not disclose the details of the case.
WHAT THE NSC CONFIRMED
According to Syrmedia.kz, the NSC stated in response to an official request that a pre-trial investigation is being conducted in the case. The department refused to disclose additional information, citing part 1 of article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which prohibits the disclosure of investigation data.
WHAT INFORMATION APPEARED EARLIER
As reported by journalist Mikhail Kozachkov in his Telegram channel “Kozachkov offside”, Tilek Makhуov previously held the positions of deputy mayor and head of the construction department.
According to the journalist, the official is suspected of receiving 100 million tenge from a company which, it is claimed, was interested in adjusting the project for the major overhaul of the city's sewer networks. It was also reported that the money was allegedly transferred through an intermediary who performed subcontracting work on this site.
Furthermore, the publication claimed that the management of LLP “Sapa Kurylys 2007” features in the case materials. There is no official confirmation of this information at the time of publication.
