In the first half of 2026, Kazakhstan produced 45.7 million tonnes of oil, which is 91.6% of the volume for the same period last year. Total production losses amounted to 3.3 million tonnes, according to Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov.

WHAT WERE THE RESULTS OF THE FIRST HALF OF THE YEAR

In the first six months of 2026, the country produced 45.7 million tonnes of oil. This is 3.3 million tonnes less compared to the same period in 2025.

Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov stated that negotiations are underway with oil-producing companies to increase production volumes in order to reduce the shortfall.

WHAT MEASURES ARE BEING TAKEN

According to Yerlan Akkenzhenov, repairs at the Kashagan field have been postponed. This is expected to compensate for losses of up to 2 million tonnes of oil.

The Minister noted that total losses across the country have been reduced from 4.9 million tonnes to 3.3 million tonnes. The oil production forecast for 2026 remains at 98 million tonnes.

WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH OIL REFINING

According to the Ministry of Energy, in the first half of the year, 8.98 million tonnes of oil were refined, which is 97.9% of the level for the same period last year. The refining plan for 2026 is 18.2 million tonnes.

WHAT INSTRUCTIONS WERE GIVEN

As reported by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, in order to achieve the planned targets for oil and gas production, the Ministry of Energy has been tasked with holding negotiations with all subsoil users and preparing a specific action plan.
