ROO «Federation «Қайық» for rowing sports has issued an official statement regarding the incident between coaches that occurred after the conclusion of the Asian Rowing Championships in Turkestan. The organisation urged everyone to await the results of the pre-trial investigation and refrain from premature conclusions.
WHAT THE FEDERATION STATED
As reported by a federation representative, video recordings circulated on social media in connection with the conflict do not reflect the full picture of what happened and contain only individual fragments of events.
The organisation emphasised that it consistently advocates for adherence to the principles of sports ethics, mutual respect, and the unacceptability of any unsportsmanlike behaviour, provocations, or actions capable of damaging the reputation of the sport and the sports community.
WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH THE INVESTIGATION
The official response notes that the competent authorities are conducting a pre-trial investigation into the incident.
As part of the investigation, all circumstances of the incident will be established, the actions of all participants will be given a legal assessment, and measures will be taken in accordance with current legislation.
WHAT PARTICIPANTS IN THE DISCUSSION WERE URGED
The «Қайық» Federation urged everyone to refrain from spreading unreliable or incomplete information and not to draw premature conclusions until the investigation is completed.
The organisation also stated that it reserves the right to take further actions within the framework of the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan to protect the business reputation of the federation and its employees.
CONTEXT
Earlier, it became known about a conflict between the coach of the specialised children's and youth sports school of the Olympic reserve for water sports in the Turkestan region, Timur Alikhanov, and the state coach of the Republic of Kazakhstan for rowing sports, Daulet Sultanbekov.
The incident occurred on 7 June 2026 after the conclusion of the VI Asian Championships in kayaking, canoeing, youth, junior, and paracanoe events. The editorial board of FBRK previously obtained the full video of the conflict, which, as reported, did not allow for an unambiguous determination of the causes of the incident but indicated the mutual nature of the physical altercation.
