According to information published by journalist Mikhail Kozachkov on his Telegram channel ‘Kozachkov Offside’, Valery Surganov has been placed on an international wanted list. It is reported that he has been named as a suspect in a criminal case under Article 274 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (‘Dissemination of Knowingly False Information’).
The criminal investigation is being conducted by the Police Department of the city of Astana.

Valery Surganov previously worked in various media outlets. In recent years, he managed the online publication ‘Vedomosti Kazakhstana’.
It is also reported that Valery Surganov had previously been convicted of slander. Furthermore, in the spring of 2026, he was sentenced to 90 hours of community service in a case involving insult.
