A resident of Almaty was held administratively liable after posts on Instagram in which he spoke about having three wives. Following a preventive conversation, the man voluntarily removed the posted materials.
WHAT HAPPENED
The author of the posts is a resident of Almaty, Bauyrzhan Bakytzhanuly, who presents himself on social media as a Muslim and an entrepreneur. On his accounts, he repeatedly spoke about living with three women. According to him, they are raising nine children together and living as one family.
In one of the videos, he said that the idea of taking a second wife, in his words, was first suggested in 2017 by his first wife. He also stated that at that time he was working as a salesperson, earning around 4,000 tenge a day and living with his family in temporary accommodation.
In other posts, the man claimed he does not seek to meet the expectations of others and considers such a lifestyle a personal choice for his family. In some videos, he also spoke about financial difficulties related to supporting a large family.
WHAT THE POLICE SAID
According to the police department (DP) of Almaty city, the posts were identified during monitoring of the internet space.
The department stated that the author's identity was established. An administrative protocol was drawn up against the man under Part 3-1 of Article 456-2 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Kazakhstan for posting unlawful content. After a preventive conversation, he voluntarily removed the published materials from his social media page.
POSITION OF THE ALMATY DP
The Almaty City Police Department reminded that the dissemination of content which, in the department's assessment, promotes behavioural models that contradict legal requirements and undermine respect for the institution of the family and generally accepted moral and ethical standards, entails administrative liability.
