The head of Argentina's cabinet of ministers Manuel Adorni has announced his resignation. In a letter addressed to Argentine President Javier Milei, he explained his decision as a result of "endless media attacks" and a desire to protect himself and his family.

WHY MANUEL ADORNI RESIGNED

According to Bloomberg, the resignation came amid an investigation into the origin of Manuel Adorni's assets and his level of spending. It is reported that the official was under investigation on suspicion of illicit enrichment. Adorni himself denied any wrongdoing and stated he intended to prove his innocence in court.

In a letter published on the social network X, he thanked Javier Milei for his trust and noted that this was the first time since 10 December 2023 that he had made a decision against the President's wishes.

"I am closing this chapter. I leave calmly and serenely, but above all — with a clear conscience," wrote Manuel Adorni.

WHAT WAS THE SUBJECT OF THE INVESTIGATION

According to Reuters, the investigation began after the publication of photos of Adorni's wife, who holds no government position, flying on the presidential plane to New York. Later, reports emerged of a family trip on a private jet to Uruguay.

Local media also reported on the purchase of real estate after Javier Milei came to power and a trip to a resort in Aruba. Furthermore, it is noted that a contractor stated at hearings that he had received $245,000 in cash for renovating a property, including the installation of a swimming pool and a fountain.

Manuel Adorni admitted to concealing $500,000 from the Argentine tax authority and stated that he had earned a significant portion of his wealth through investments in Bitcoin over a decade ago.

HOW THE AUTHORITIES REACTED TO THE SITUATION

Javier Milei repeatedly described the accusations and scandals surrounding Adorni as attacks by the opposition and the media. Adorni himself stated that he considered what was happening to be relentless persecution and rejected the corruption allegations.

Milei's approval rating fell below 36%, but later recovered to 40% according to an AtlasIntel poll. More than half of the survey participants said they expected further corruption revelations.

WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT FURTHER PERSONNEL DECISIONS

Manuel Adorni was one of Javier Milei's closest associates. After the President came to power in December 2023, he took up the post of official government spokesperson, and in November 2025 he was appointed head of the cabinet of ministers.

The new head of the cabinet of ministers is Diego Santilli. The swearing-in ceremony for the new head of government will take place on 30 June.

59-year-old Diego Santilli, prior to his appointment, held the post of Minister of the Interior, which he received in November 2025. He will become the fourth head of the cabinet of ministers since the President took office.
