In the Merey neighbourhood of Zhanaozen, a car caught fire. Before the emergency services arrived, the installed gas cylinder exploded; there were no casualties.
HOW THE FIRE STARTED
The fire broke out on 46 Street in the Merey neighbourhood. Before the arrival of officers from the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), the gas cylinder in the car exploded.
MES officers who arrived at the scene quickly extinguished the fire.
WHAT RESCUERS RECOMMEND
The MES reminded owners of vehicles with gas equipment of the need to regularly check the condition of the gas cylinder and the entire gas system. Rescuers recommend that maintenance and repairs be carried out only at specialised service centres.
If you smell gas, you should stop the car, switch off the engine, avoid using naked flames and avoid switching on electrical appliances. After this, you should leave the vehicle and move to a safe distance.
In the event of a fire or gas leak, you should immediately call 112. The MES also advises against attempting to extinguish the fire yourself if this could threaten your safety.
CONTEXT
The incident once again draws attention to the dangers associated with the use of gas cylinders.
It will be recalled that on the night of 26–27 February, an explosion of a gas-air mixture occurred in Shchuchinsk in a single-storey café adjoining a five-storey residential building. The fire killed 12 people, and a further 11 were injured.
Later, the Burabay District Court delivered its verdict on the three defendants in the case. The court established that on 25 February 2026, two gas cylinders were delivered to the café, one of which subsequently exploded. According to the court, that cylinder had been filled beyond the permitted limit.
