In one night, five road traffic accidents (RTAs) involving domestic animals were recorded on the Atyrau – Astrakhan highway. Livestock left unattended poses a threat to road safety, especially in the dark.
WHAT THE POLICE REPORTED
According to the Atyrau Region Police Department (PD), all five RTAs recorded in one night on the highway involved domestic animals. The commander of the platoon responsible for this section of road, Akylbek Khoshayev, noted that livestock left unattended poses a particular danger to drivers in the dark. Collisions with animals can lead to vehicle damage and threaten people's lives and health.
WHAT LIVESTOCK OWNERS WERE CALLED UPON TO DO
The police called on owners not to leave animals unattended and not to allow them onto the highway. Drivers were reminded of the need to observe the speed limit and exercise particular care at night, when it is harder to spot animals on the road.
CONTEXT
Collisions with domestic animals on roads can lead to severe consequences. One such case occurred in August 2026 in Zhambyl Region involving former Mazhilis deputy Bakytzhan Bazarbek. A Toyota Camry collided with a cow on the highway. As a result of the incident, a 36-year-old man sustained severe injuries and was taken to intensive care.
After the accident, Bakytzhan Bazarbek called for no hasty conclusions to be drawn and said that the investigation was ongoing. He also noted that he had signed a non-disclosure undertaking regarding the pre-trial investigation.
The injured man, Nurzhigit Koshanov, came out of a coma after 24 days and began to recognise his loved ones. Later it was reported that he continued to recover from his injuries, including a broken leg, and needed rehabilitation.
