On the night of 19 to 20 June in the Almaty Region, a robbery was committed at the home of former police general Zhailaubek Khallykuly. At the time of the incident, his wife and two young grandchildren were in the house. The unknown assailants stole around 3 million tenge and gold jewellery.
HOW THE ATTACK HAPPENED
According to the Telegram channel "HALYQSTAN", around two o'clock in the morning, four masked men entered the grounds of a private house by jumping over the fence. Zhailaubek Khallykuly's wife, born in 1964, and her two grandchildren, born in 2016 and 2018, were in the house.
The attackers immobilised the security guard, tied his hands and taped his mouth shut. They then tied up the woman and the children. After that, the criminals took around 3 million tenge in cash and gold jewellery.
HOW HELP WAS RAISED
According to the victims, after the attackers fled, one of the children managed to free themselves and call their parents.
Upon receiving the report of the attack, police officers immediately arrived at the scene. Law enforcement agencies are currently establishing the circumstances of the incident and conducting search and investigative operations.
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE ATTACKERS
According to the victims, all four men spoke Russian with an accent. Other identifying features or details about the attackers' identities are not specified in the materials.
WHO IS ZHAILAUBEK KHALYKULY
Zhailaubek Khallykuly headed the internal affairs departments of the Almaty and Akmola regions from 2009 to 2016.
On 23 May 2022, officers of the Anti-Corruption Service detained him on suspicion of fraud. According to the investigation, he received money and property from a citizen, promising assistance in dropping a criminal case.
On 6 August of the same year, a guard at the pre-trial detention centre found Zhailaubek Khallykuly dead at around seven o'clock in the morning. At that time, the press service of the Committee of the Criminal Executive System (CCES) reported that an arriving ambulance crew had confirmed death due to mechanical asphyxia.
