Since the start of the year, dozens of serious and particularly serious crimes committed in previous years have been solved in Kazakhstan. Suspects have been identified in murder cases in the Pavlodar and Karaganda regions.

WHAT RESULTS HAVE INVESTIGATORS ACHIEVED

According to Polisia.kz, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) conducted an analysis of unsolved serious and particularly serious crimes. A significant number of criminal cases were opened back in the 1990s and the early 2000s.

The department reported that since the start of the year, dozens of crimes from the 'past years' category have been solved. These include particularly serious crimes committed in the Pavlodar and Karaganda regions.

WHAT TECHNOLOGIES WERE USED

The MIA noted that a large-scale modernisation of the forensic service has been carried out in the country. Modern molecular genetic laboratories are currently operational, new equipment is being used to detect hidden and destroyed traces, and digital methods of personal identification are also being employed.

According to the department, it was modern DNA analysis methods that played a key role in solving the murders in the two regions.

WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE SUSPECTS

Sergey Stikheev, Head of the Operational Forensic Department of the MIA, reported that a full evidence base has been gathered for the criminal cases.

The suspects are awaiting a court decision.

WHAT THE MIA SAYS

According to Sergey Stikheev, the work on solving past crimes is under the special supervision of the department's leadership.

He noted that every solved crime contributes to the implementation of the principle of the inevitability of punishment. The MIA emphasised that modern technologies make it possible to return to investigations that have remained unsolved for many years.
