In Pavlodar, a court has passed a sentence in a case concerning the illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs and the legalisation of criminal proceeds. Three defendants each received 7 years' imprisonment, and the seized vehicles were confiscated to the state.
WHAT THE INVESTIGATION ESTABLISHED
The investigation was conducted by the Department of the Agency for Financial Monitoring (AFM) for Pavlodar Region. The investigation established that a citizen, Z.F. Alekperov, organised the sale of poppy seeds mixed with narcotic substances, passing the product off as food items.
The scheme, it is noted, involved close relatives of the convicted man. The roles of supply, storage, packaging and sale of the product were distributed among them.
HOW THE SUPPLIES WERE CARRIED OUT
Supplies of the product were brought in from another region via logistics companies. Sales were conducted under the guise of food poppy seeds and spices.
During searches, law enforcement officers seized packaged batches of the narcotic substance mixture. According to the AFM, funds were received both in cash and via bank transfers.
WHAT THE PROCEEDS WERE SPENT ON
The investigation established that the organiser used the income from the illegal activity to purchase two cars. To conceal the origin of the property, the vehicles were registered in the names of third parties.
WHAT DECISION THE COURT MADE
The court found Z.F. Alekperov and his two accomplices guilty and sentenced each to 7 years' imprisonment.
Additionally, two cars were confiscated to the state. Furthermore, 321 kg of poppy seeds mixed with narcotic substances were destroyed.
The sentence has entered into legal force.
