A court in Almaty has found lawyer and blogger Adiletkhan Moldakhan guilty of spreading knowingly false information. He was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison, and also banned from blogging activities for 5 years.

According to the press service of the Almaty courts, Adiletkhan Moldakhan was found guilty of spreading knowingly false information. The court sentenced him to 2 years and 6 months in prison.
In addition, the court banned the blogger from engaging in activities related to publishing materials on social networks for 5 years.
WHAT THE CRIMINAL CASE INVOLVES
The criminal case was initiated after publications by Adiletkhan Moldakhan about a fatal road traffic accident on Al-Farabi Avenue, which occurred in March 2026. In his publications, he put forward his own versions of what happened, claiming the alleged possible involvement of police officers in illegal races and the possible concealment of the circumstances of the accident.
The investigation considered the disseminated information to be knowingly false.
WHAT HAPPENED DURING THE INVESTIGATION
On 31 March 2026, the blogger was placed in a temporary detention facility. Later, a pre-trial investigation was launched against him for spreading knowingly false information. During the trial, Adiletkhan Moldakhan fully admitted his guilt.
Despite this, the court kept him in custody and subsequently delivered a guilty verdict.
WHAT ELSE IS KNOWN ABOUT THE CASE
Previously, Adiletkhan Moldakhan worked in the internal affairs bodies, but was dismissed for negative reasons. It was also reported that a court had previously found him guilty in another criminal case.
The convicted man's lawyers intend to appeal the sentence and seek to have the prison term replaced with a restriction of liberty.
