In Tajikistan, employers have been required to organise daily physical exercises for their staff lasting at least 20 minutes. Corresponding amendments have been made to the Health Code.

WHEN THE NEW RULES WERE ADOPTED

According to Asia-Plus, the law was passed on 10 June 2026 by the country's parliament — the Majlisi Namoyandagon, and on 17 June 2026 it was signed by the President of TajikistanEmomali Rahmon.

The new rule mandates the carrying out of daily physical exercises for employees. The requirement applies to all organisations, regardless of their form of ownership.

WHAT THE MINISTRY OF JUSTICE REPORTED

The Minister of Justice, Muzaffar Ashuriyon, reported that the new measure was developed on the basis of a Presidential decree from 14 February 2026.

According to the head of the department, the measure is aimed at preventing obesity and diabetes, and at strengthening public health.

"Employers and officials have been charged with the duty of conducting regular physical exercises of at least 20 minutes per day," the minister noted.

Furthermore, heads of organisations must create conditions for engaging in sport and must themselves take part in physical activity. According to the explanations provided by the Minister of Justice, the new rules apply to all organisations, regardless of their form of ownership.

WHAT PRACTICE WAS IN PLACE PREVIOUSLY

Previously, morning exercises were carried out in certain state and private institutions on a voluntary basis.

Later, employees of all state departments, institutions and organisations were required to take part in Saturday morning exercises. Participation applied to all civil servants without exception.

A special schedule was drawn up for the sessions, and locations were designated for each department. The exercises began at 07:00 and lasted approximately 30 minutes.
