In Almaty, disruptions to public transport continue due to a fault at some automotive gas filling compressor stations (AGNCS). Queues of buses have formed at the operational filling stations, leading to increased intervals on a number of routes.
WHY THE DELAYS OCCURRED
According to the Almaty City Administration, only 5 out of 8 gas filling stations for buses are currently working. As a result, queues have formed at the operational stations, affecting public transport services.
The maintenance company reported that repair and restoration work is underway. One station is planned to be operational on 29 July, with full restoration of all AGNCS expected by 31 July. The city administration also apologised to passengers and recommended taking possible schedule changes into account when planning journeys.
WHERE THE TECHNICAL FAILURES OCCURRED
According to information from the Main Community for Urban Transport and Buses of Kazakhstan, a technical failure occurred at key AGNCS near municipal bus depot No. 3 (Almatyelectrotrans LLP) and the BATU bus depot.
In two days, 4 gas filling stations broke down. Large queues of buses formed at the remaining stations, as confirmed by photographs published by Almaty residents.
HOW THIS AFFECTED BUS SERVICES
On a number of routes served by buses running on gas motor fuel, there has been a significant reduction in the number of vehicles in service. On some routes, only between 4 and 8 buses are operating on the line, so service intervals have temporarily increased.
It is also reported that for some routes operated by Almatyelectrotrans LLP, electric buses have been deployed to the line. However, private carriers do not have this option.
