Messages have spread on social media claiming that Family Park may be closed and that a residential complex will supposedly be built in its place. The press service of the Almaty Akimat stated that this information is false and that the park will retain its purpose.
WHAT WAS WRITTEN ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Earlier, the official Family Park account published a post on the social network Threads, in which it reported that a meeting of the "Zher Amanaty" commission of the AMANAT party had taken place in Almaty. According to the publication, the issue was raised at the meeting following appeals from residents, complaints about the park's condition, and public outcry around the topic.
The message also claims that the Family Park administration was not provided with the appeals and complaints referenced by the meeting participants, and that park representatives were not invited to the discussion. According to the authors of the publication, the park subsequently received a notice of termination of the lease agreement, as well as a court claim.
WHAT THE AKIMAT RESPONDED
As reported by the press service of the Almaty Akimat, information about the construction of a residential complex or other facilities on the territory of Family Park does not correspond to reality.
The city administration emphasised that, according to the current Almaty General Plan and the Detailed Planning Project, the territory remains a public recreational zone. A change in its intended use is not envisaged.
WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH THE PARK
According to the Almaty Akimat, currently only the issue of returning the territory to state management for reconstruction, improvement and modernisation is being considered.
After the renovation, Family Park, as stated by the Akimat, will retain its purpose as a park for the recreation of residents and guests of the city.
WHY ARE THE AUTHORITIES TALKING ABOUT RECONSTRUCTION
The Almaty Akimat stated that for many years the tenant had not fully fulfilled its obligations for the development and maintenance of the park and had not invested in its infrastructure.
According to the city authorities, the park needs an update of its engineering and recreational infrastructure, as well as the creation of a modern and accessible environment, including for people with limited mobility.
