In Almaty, a moped rider deliberately hit a police officer while attempting to flee from pursuit. The incident occurred on Tole Bi Avenue when a patrol police unit spotted a moped travelling in the opposite lane.

"When one of the patrol officers continued the pursuit on foot, the moped rider deliberately knocked him down and fled the scene. As a result of operational measures, the offender was identified and detained," the police department reported.

No information has been received about the condition of the injured officer. Administrative charges were filed against the driver on several counts. The court sentenced him to 10 days of administrative detention.

Similar incidents involving collisions with police officers have become more frequent in Kazakhstan. In June in Shymkent, a system with artificial intelligence (AI) recorded dangerous driving by the driver of a Daewoo Nexia. The man ignored police demands, and when officers attempted to stop him, he nearly hit an officer — one policeman ended up on the bonnet.

Earlier, in April, another driver also tried to flee from the police, and an officer who blocked his path ended up on the bonnet. Despite this, the offender continued driving and carried him for some distance. It later emerged that the driver was under the influence of drugs. The court sentenced him to 7 years in prison.
