The environmental prosecutor's office of the Zhetysu region has uncovered large-scale violations related to the illegal export of fish products to Europe.
According to the press service of the regional prosecutor's office, local fishermen created more than 20 affiliated enterprises through which they exported fish products abroad.
At the same time, the companies did not have designated water bodies, did not hold quotas for fish catch, and did not obtain export permits.
For example, one limited liability partnership had a fish catch limit of 270 tonnes, yet exported 4,920 tonnes of fish, which is 18 times the limit. Of this volume, 2,096 tonnes were exported through affiliated companies.
The total damage caused by the actions of four fishing entities and their affiliated firms amounted to over 80 billion tenge. A pre-trial investigation is underway into the identified facts under Article 234 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Economic Smuggling").
It should be recalled that earlier in the coastal zone of "Ashchymuryn" in the Tupkaragan district of the Mangistau region, prosecutors detained a man in possession of 455 kg of sturgeon fish, for which a moratorium on catching has been declared by all Caspian countries.
