On the Astana – Atbasar – Zhaksy route in the Akmola Region, a collision occurred between a KamAZ truck carrying explosives and a Chevrolet Tracker passenger car. Two people died in the accident, and two others were injured.
WHAT IS KNOWN
According to Liter.kz, on 16 June at approximately 07:00 on the 231st km of the Astana – Atbasar – Zhaksy highway, near the village of Bastau, a road traffic accident (RTA) occurred.
At the scene of the accident, the driver of the passenger car, born in 1996, and a female passenger, born in 1978, died. Two other people sustained injuries and bruises. The injured are receiving medical assistance in hospital.
WHAT THE KAMAZ WAS CARRYING
According to preliminary data, the truck was travelling from Kostanay to Astana and was carrying no less than 20 tonnes of explosives intended for quarry work. The KamAZ driver had a permit to transport dangerous goods. A security guard was also in the cab.
After the accident, the scene was secured. No leaks or fires were reported.
HOW THE COLLISION HAPPENED
According to preliminary information, the Chevrolet Tracker passenger car entered the oncoming lane and collided head-on with the KamAZ.
According to one version of events, the driver of the passenger car fell asleep at the wheel.
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION
A pre-trial investigation has been launched into the accident. Police are continuing to establish the circumstances of the incident.
The police also urged drivers to follow traffic rules and to be extremely vigilant on the roads.
