In Kyzylorda, a court sentenced the head of a structural unit of the WornerBros financial pyramid. The defendant was found guilty and sentenced to 5 years in prison. The verdict has entered into legal force.
WHAT INVESTIGATION WAS CONDUCTED
The investigation was carried out by the department of the Financial Monitoring Agency (AFM) for the Kyzylorda region.
The investigation established that the organiser recruited citizens into the WornerBros financial pyramid under the pretext of earning income from watching short videos and films through the platform of the same name.
HOW THE SCHEME WORKED
Participants were offered to register via a referral link and purchase one of the VIP packages costing from 10,000 tenge to 11 million tenge. They were promised daily profits of up to 735,000 tenge.
Bonuses were awarded for recruiting new participants, which encouraged further involvement of citizens. The scheme was promoted using WhatsApp groups, social media advertising, and campaign meetings.
WHAT ASSETS THE INVESTIGATION DISCOVERED
During the investigation, cryptocurrency wallets were identified which, according to the investigation, were used to accumulate and transfer investors' funds.
By court order, the crypto assets were seized. Their value amounted to $3 million.
WHAT DECISION THE COURT MADE
The court found the defendant guilty and sentenced her to 5 years in prison.
The court also granted the civil claims of 24 victims.
